Haudenesaunee Thanksgiving Address

Haudenesaunee Thanksgiving Address

In the Haudenesaunee (Iroquois Confederacy) tradition expressing gratitude and giving thanks is a regular practice. Although it might sound like a prayer their Thanksgiving Address is spoken as an offering of greetings and thanks to the Natural World. It is also intended to strengthen our spiritual tie to the natural world by reinforcing respect and love for the gifts of our Creator, as well as our interconnection with all Life.

The Thanksgiving Address is an oral tradition, so it can be said in different ways even as all the elements of the natural world are honored. At the close of epressing gratitude to each element people are reminded of our unity with all creation with a phrase like, "Now our minds are one".
